The ProPath Dermatopathology Fellowship Program is ACGME accredited for two positions. ProPath is a national, physician owned, multi-specialty Pathology group practice, based in Dallas, TX. We work closely with local residency programs, including those from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (UTSW), Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), and University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). ProPath is the sponsor of the program, but we have a Program Letter of Agreement (PLA) with UTSW. Pathology-trained fellows obtain their clinic experience in the department of Dermatology at UTSW.

ProPath Dermatopathology is a high-volume practice, with in-house state-of-the-art ancillary testing, including special stains, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and fluorescence in situ hybridization, lymphoid clonality testing, mutational analyses, next-generation sequencing, and even electron microscopy. Our large immunohistochemical and molecular test menus provide many choices for fellows when pursuing academic endeavors, including translational studies. We currently have ten full-time Dermatopathologists on our staff, including Pathologists and Dermatologists. These staff members have subspecialty expertise (alopecia, soft tissue, molecular, gynecologic, immunofluorescence, etc.). Through a weekly rotation by the staff, fellows are exposed to each Dermatopathologist. This provides fellows with high-level learning in subspecialty areas, exposes fellows to differences in handling cases and allows an opportunity for fellows to identify mentors.

In addition to the high volume of routine cases, ProPath has a robust consultation service, allowing for concentrated exposure to complex cases. ProPath has Surgical Pathology, Hematopathology, Cytopathology, Molecular Diagnostics, and other specialties in house to round out the Pathology experience for Dermatology-trained fellows. And finally, as a private practice, ProPath is equipped with a superb management team, including an in-house council, eager to share insight to practice management, including topics such as laboratory start-up, credentialing, billing, information technology, laboratory personnel requirements, QA/QI measures, marketing, and legal and ethical issues.
