Gender Determination by PCR

ProPath offers a convenient and affordable option to find out your baby’s gender as early as 8 weeks by asking your physician to order ProPath ProXY Gender Reveal. With only one tube of blood, ProPath is able to detect Y-chromosome from fetal DNA circulating in your blood using PCR technology. A result will be reported to your physician within 24 - 48 hours from time of receipt.

How It Works

Step 1:

The ProPath ProXY Gender Reveal assay uses rapid, real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology to detect Y-Chromosome (male) fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s blood.

Step 2:

A single tube of blood is drawn from a pregnant woman.

Step 3:

Circulating, cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) is extracted from the sample and analyzed.

Step 4:

ProPath’s technology accurately detects the presence or absence of Y-chromosome (male) DNA, determining whether the baby is male or female.

Disclaimer This is a nondiagnostic prenatal gender test. Testing is performed by real-time PCR amplification and detection of Y-chromosome DNA. This test may not be accurate when fetal mosaicism occurs, or if the pregnancy is not a singleton(twins, multiples). False results can occur if you are less than 8 weeks pregnant or have a low-circulating DNA fetal fraction.
