Biography

ProPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Matthew Lewin, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical staff. Dr. Lewin is a board-certified pathologist and ProPath’s director of renal pathology. He brings robust professional medical experience, including leadership positions, and an extensive list of publications. 

Dr. Lewin studied biology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Mississippi State University in Starkville. He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson. He served his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, followed by a surgical pathology fellowship, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. 

Dr. Lewin held the position of consultant for the Division of Anatomic Pathology, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He sat on the surgical pathology fellowship selection committee in the Mayo Clinic Department of Pathology and was the residency rotation director at the Mayo medical laboratory pathology department. Dr. Lewin has been a pathologist at ProPath since 2008. While there, he held the position of medical director at Dallas Nephrology Associates in Texas and the medical director of Texas Digestive Diseases Consultants in Southlake. He is currently ProPath’s director of renal pathology. 

Dr. Lewin has a considerable number of publications including peer-reviewed manuscripts, a book chapter and abstracts. He has published articles in journals such as the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and the American Journal of Kidney Disease, among many others. He has a chapter published in Diagnostic Dermatopathology: A Guide to Ancillary Tests Beyond the H&E. He has published abstracts in journals such as Modern Pathology and Gastroenterology. He was a journal reviewer for Human Pathology and Mayo Clinic Proceedings

Dr. Lewin is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Minnesota Society of Pathology, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. 

Dr. Lewin holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
