Biography

ProPath, a Sonic Healthcare anatomic pathology practice, is privileged to include Monica I. Ruiz, M.D., as a part of its dynamic medical team. Dr. Ruiz is a board-certified pathologist who brings robust professional medical and leadership experience to her position. 

Dr. Ruiz graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in Houston, Texas. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Following her degrees, she completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, before completing a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology at Caris Diagnostics in Irving, TX. 

Dr. Ruiz has extensive professional experience, including numerous directorships at various medical institutions. Following her fellowship, Dr. Ruiz became a pathologist and partner at North Texas Pathology Laboratories in Rowlett, TX. She has held the position of medical director of laboratory and CLIA director at medical institutions throughout Texas, including Lake Point Hospital and Lake Pointe Urgent Care Center in Rowlett, Forney Free-Standing and Wylie Free-Standing Emergency Centers in Forney and Wylie, Logos Laboratory in Dallas, and Crescent Regional Hospital in Lancaster. She has been at ProPath since 2023. 

Dr. Ruiz has a peer-reviewed manuscript in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience. She has presented and published a collection of abstracts at society meetings such as the annual meetings of the College of American Pathologists and Texas Society of Pathologists and the Pulmonary Pathology Society Biennial Meeting. 

Dr. Ruiz is a member of professional societies such as the American Gastroenterology Association, College of American Pathologists, Texas Society of Pathologists, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Ruiz holds full medical licensure and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
